Federal Bureau of Investigation hunts woman 'infatuated' with Columbine massacre who threatened school

Almost 20 schools in Jefferson County went into 'lockout mode, ' meaning exterior doors are locked, but inside, operations and classes continue as normal. She was most recently seen in the "foothills" of Jefferson County.

Authorities say she is "infatuated" with the Columbine High School shooting and made undisclosed threats to area schools.

"Please do not approach her as she is considered armed and unsafe".

"It's a credible threat ... but she did not make it directly", said Jenny Fulton, a spokeswoman with the sheriff's office.

"It is our understanding they are searching for a suspicious person", Wilson said.

They said she should not be approached but did not provide further details about the nature of the threat except that she was believed to be in the Denver-Littleton area and "attempting to buy firearms".

A bulletin sent to police said officials don't have a reason to arrest Pais, but they said she should be detained for an evaluation of her mental health, according to the Denver Post.

All schools in the Denver area are being urged to tighten security after what appears to be a credible threat caused a lockout at Columbine High School and more than 20 other schools in the area.

On Tuesday, some schools released their students after additional security was called in and cancelled evening activities or moved them inside.

The department's announcement came after the same threat lead to an earlier lockout of several Jefferson County schools, including Columbine High School.

The students walked to crosswalks and buses parked near the entrance. "Children are safe. Deputies are at the schools".

The doors were locked at Columbine and more than 20 other schools in the Denver area Tuesday as the sheriff's office said it was investigating threats against schools related to an FBI investigation.

All of the students are safe, the Jefferson County Sheriff's office said on Facebook.

This Saturday marks the 20th anniversary that two high school gunmen shot and killed 12 students and a teacher at Columbine.

Officials had no answer at the time of the press conference as to whether schools would open on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, law enforcement said students would remain in school through the day.

A spokesperson for the FBI's Denver field office did not immediately respond to queries. Two threats were made to the school: one call said there was a bomb inside the building, another said there was a person with a gun outside of it.

Tuesday's lockout, less serious than a public safety "lockdown", means activities inside schools may continue as usual but entry and exit are restricted, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said on Twitter. There was no immediate indication whether there was any connection to the anniversary.
