Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL are Google's new mid-range smartphones

Google Pixel 3a XL

The buzz is that the company will introduce Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL smartphones, featuring designs that are similar to the Pixel 3, and Pixel 3 XL released past year.

While this leak is pretty much in line with previous speculations, the final specifications of the device will only be confirmed when Google will officially launch the device on 8 May in India.

Pixel 3a purportedly has the same 5.5-inch screen size as the Pixel 3, while the Pixel 3a XL will have a slightly larger 6-inch display.

The Pixel 3a lineup will feature Active Edge technology and will come with a fingerprint sensor at the back.

"For the Pixel 3a, it will feature a 5.6" Full HD+ OLED display and it runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 processor.

We are only a few hours until the kick off of Google's I/O 2019 event where the cheaper Pixel 3 smartphone will be revealed.

There's no info on the Indian pricing of the Pixel 3a and 3a XL, which is important as the same will decide whether these mid-range smartphones will be able to survive amid the slew of competitively priced phones. This is the feature developed by HTC that lets you squeeze the phones sides to summon Google Assistant. It's the Nest Hub Max, which will be a new addition to the company's Assistant-backed Home smart displays lineup but possibly under the Nest brand name. It will also offer stereo speakers.

You can also watch the live stream on the Google I/O page. We could expect to learn about the same at Google I/O tomorrow.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai and other executives will glance at the many features and improvements coming to Android, Google Assistant, and many other apps and services over the next year. Notably, Google isn't shying away from stating that the Pixel 3a is made of polycarbonate as opposed to the glass design on the standard Pixel3, with Google providing a warning about the device being scratch resistant, but how "paint may flake off" upon impact. Android Q is likely to bring support for foldable devices, "bubbles" like Facebook messenger for multi-tasking, system-wide dark mode and improved privacy and device security features.

Every year, Google comes with new advancements in its assistant and showcases how Google Assistant is smarter than others.

Android TV, Chrome OS, ARCore, Google Maps, and even Google's "Daydream" VR plans could get the much-needed attention they've lacked for some time.
