Vladimir Putin: Russian President FACEPLANTS after ridiculously score tally in hockey game

Vladimir Putin

Russian president Vladimir Putin took a break from global affairs on Friday to play in an annual exhibition hockey game in Sochi. Putin's team won Friday, 14-7.

The Russian leader took to the ice on Friday in what has become an annual tradition.

Earlier too, Putin had participated in these games and have scored numerous gaols.

Vladimir Putin had an embarrassing moment on ice - and it was captured on camera for all to replay.

After opening the scoring unassisted by beating the goaltender 2 minutes into the game, the 66-year-old added seven more goals, making him the top scorer.

He appeared unhurt after his trip, helping himself back up off the ice to carry on waving to his supporters. He played on the Legends team alongside Russian hockey stars such as Hall of Famers Slava Fetisov and Pavel Bure.

Putin, whose approval ratings has slipped in recent years as Russian Federation battles economic woes, periodically plays hockey with government officials, businessmen and former National Hockey League stars in matches that are broadcast with pomp on national television. The highlights show some of Putin's goals including one where the goalie clearly raises his pad to let the shot go in despite being in a flawless position to stop it.

The man is obviously a unit out there - oozing with talent and an elite hockey acumen to match - but this year's contest proved that even the greatest exhibition player to ever lace up a pair of 1994 CCM Tacks has his flaws as an athlete.
