Panel, Trump Jr. agree to interview

According to The New York Times, a series of previously undisclosed letters from the panel's chairman show that the panel is looking into the actions of four lawyers - Jay Sekulow, Alan Garten, Alan S. Futerfas, and Abbe D. Lowell, all of whom took part in a joint defense agreement to provide coordinated responses to questions from Congress and the Justice Department during the Russian Federation probe.

The testimony will reportedly be limited in timing and scope, and it will take place in mid-June.

The panel had subpoenaed Trump Jr.to appear before the committee, two congressional sources said last week.

It's the first known subpoena of a member of the president's immediate family, and news of the move prompted strong words from Burr's Republican colleagues last week, including some who went as far as to say they thought Trump Jr. shouldn't comply.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) had opined that Trump Jr. should refuse the subpoena outright.

Sekulow, Futerfas, and Lowell represent President Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Ivanka Trump, respectively.

It is not clear how long Trump Jr. had to comply with the subpoena, but reports suggested it was issued several weeks ago after he reportedly backed out of voluntary interviews.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has defended Burr, telling his colleagues during the private GOP luncheon that he trusted the intelligence committee chairman.

The House Intelligence Committee is questioning Trump team lawyers on potential obstruction of the committee's investigation into Russian election interference, concerning edits to false testimony from Michael Cohen.

The committee's demand to have Trump Jr. testify reportedly is related to the earlier testimony of former Trump attorney Michael Cohen, seen here.

"Don continues to cooperate by producing documents and is willing to answer written questions, but no lawyer would ever agree to allow their client to participate in what is an obvious PR stunt from a so-called "Republican" senator too cowardly to stand up to his boss Mark Warner and the rest of the resistance Democrats on the committee".

Trump said on Tuesday said he believed that his son was being treated poorly.

"If I were Donald Trump Jr.'s lawyer, I would tell him, you don't need to go back into this environment anymore", Graham told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo on Sunday. On Tuesday, McConnell told reporters that "none of us tell Chairman Burr how to run his committee".

In the wake of Robert Mueller's report, Democrats and a subset of Republicans have argued that the meeting, in which Trump Jr. and other campaign officials met with a Kremlin-linked attorney, warrants further investigation.
