Madonna, on Eurovision, says she won't bow 'to suit someone's political agenda'

Madonna's much-publicised performance at this weekend's Eurovision Song Contest could be in question after the show's organisers revealed that no contract has yet been signed.

Kan played down the incident, noting that the evening ended without any other incident as Greece, Belarus, Serbia, Cyprus, Estonia, Czech Republic, Australia, Iceland, San Marino and Slovenia made it through to Saturday's finals.

KAN CEO Eldad Koblenz told Army Radio on Wednesday that Hamas appeared to be behind the attack - an assessment also confirmed by the National Cyber Directorate.

Madonna landed in Tel Aviv Tuesday night, defying calls by pro-Palestinian activists for her to boycott the worldwide song competition hosted by Israel.

Earlier this month it engaged in three days of fighting with Israel that included hundreds of rocket attacks from Gaza and Israeli air strikes in the enclave.

"But I am happy to say that within a few minutes we managed to assume control over this phenomenon". At least 25 Palestinians and four Israelis were killed in this latest spate of violence.

Those who win through to Saturday's final will join host Israel and the so-called "big five" of Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain - all of whom are entitled to skip the elimination rounds.

Last year's victor was Israeli entrant Netta Barzilai with the song "Toy", which went on to top the Billboard dance club chart in the USA in August, a first for an Israeli singer.

Palestinian activists have responded, calling Eurovision an "artwashing [of] Israel's brutal oppression of Palestinians".

The "Like A Prayer" pop superstar, who is due to perform at Eurovision, responded to protests from pro-Palestinian groups who want companies and performers to boycott Israel in a statement on Tuesday (May 14). The second semi-final is on Thursday.

The BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) has targeted artists and broadcasters at Eurovision, urging them not to participate in the event.

"We are negotiating but if it's not signed, it won't happen", he said.

The insider added that the Material Girl would bring a massive entourage of 160 people and the bill to bring her and her team to Tel Aviv comes in at a staggering $1m (£775,000).

The BDS - modelled after the South African anti-apartheid movement - was formed in 2005 by more than 200 Palestinian civil society organisations, urging non-violent pressure on Israel until it complies with worldwide law.

Rebuffing the pressure, Madonna said she would "never stop playing music to suit someone's political agenda".
