Terrifying scenes as window cleaners’ basket becomes loose

Video from the scene shows the scaffold, tethered to a crane, banging against the building.

Two window washers have been rescued from a dangling scaffold above the roof of a almost 850-foot (259 meters) skyscraper in downtown Oklahoma City. (Supplied) The vessel they were in broke several windows of the building as it smashed into the side.

The lift's wild swings were first noticed before 8 a.m. local time Wednesday.

The firefighters were called to Devon Tower when a caller reported that the basket was swinging at about 7:50 a.m., the Oklahoman reported.

The two men were stranded outside the 259-metre skyscraper for under an hour before being pulled to safety.

Macy said paramedics evaluated both men, who refused treatment. He said the cause of the accident is under investigation. At that point, it wasn't known if they were injured.

One Twitter user, sharing dramatic footage of the incident, earlier wrote: "Happening right now: workers stuck on a lift or window washing scaffold are trapped in high winds at Devon Tower in Oklahoma City".
