Uber announces major Black and Black SUV enhancements, including Quiet Mode

Uber offers ‘Quiet Mode’ for riders who don't want to talk to their drivers

Uber has announced a number of new features for USA passengers using luxury Uber services like UberBLACK, or UberSUV - both of which involve fancier and more spacious vehicle models than a regular Uber ride.

Other features the ride-share company is adding for the Uber Black include help with luggage, temperature control and extended pickup times.

Uber is introducing a new in-app way to opt out of a conversation with your driver in the most polite way possible.

Uber customers residing in the United States will now be able to set rider preferences like "conversation", "temperature" settings and "baggage". You'll be paying more, but you probably won't know how much of that money will make it to your driver - given the May 8 TNC strike organized by regional drivers' associations, we may presume not much - and how much will go to patching the $1.8 billion Uber lost past year.

Starting today, Uber Black and Uber Black SUV drivers in dozens of US cities (full list here) will have to come into compliance with new company rules to ensure a consistent experience across the service.

Riders have been clamoring for a "quiet mode" for when you don't want to chat. That's why Uber is allowing riders to stipulate they aren't in the mood. "That's why we've improved features and requirements to meet or exceed their expectations on every ride", the press statement explains. "Quiet Mode, in particular, is something that people have been asking for for a long time", told Uber product manager Aydin Ghajar to TechCrunch. "The driver can have that information and do with it what they want".

The giant ride-hailing company has not yet made a profit, despite its multibillion-dollar valuation. They are part of Uber's effort to draw users back to its pricier Uber Black service.
