Missouri, Latest US State To Restrict Abortion

Rihanna Slams Alabama Governor for Abortion Ban

Elizabeth Warren was among the first to enter the race.

The plan won praise from women's rights advocates on social media.

Doctors in Missouri could face five to 15 years in prison for performing an abortion after eight weeks, but women would not face criminal penalties for terminating their pregnancies.

These extremist Republican lawmakers know what the law is - but they don't care.

"Our democracy should not be held hostage by right-wing courts, and women should not have to hope that Brett Kavanaugh and Donald Trump's Supreme Court will respect the law", she said.

I'll be blunt: It just might work.

Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, another 2020 candidate, similarly suggested that eliminating abortion will prove deadly. But their goal is to get to the supreme court and persuade the justices to overturn Roe v Wade, the landmark ruling guaranteeing the right to an abortion.

Gostin said what he sees happening instead is the continued trend of conservative states restricting access to abortion. A new law should go further to prohibit states from "interfering in the ability of a patient to access medical care, including abortion services, from a provider that offers them".

The law prompted calls for travel boycotts and concerns from business leaders that the controversy could put a halt to economic development efforts in the state.

Ms Warren also wants Congress to enact laws that invalidate state rules that have placed near-impossible regulations on abortion clinics.

Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and another presidential contender, said the laws were "ignoring science" and "punishing women".

California Senator Kamala Harris, another Democratic 2020 hopeful, said people needed to fight back to protect Roe vs Wade as it is under attack. More than 70 percent of Americans-including 52 percent of Republicans-do not believe Roe v. Wade should be overturned.

Amid Alabama enacting the strictest abortion ban in America, presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. Exceptions are allowed in certain scenarios: when either the mother's life is at risk; if the fetus' condition would result in a stillbirth or death after birth; or "when a mental illness could lead to the woman's death or that of her child", The Montgomery Advertiser reports. Governor Brian Kemp (R-GA) signed the bill into law despite a threatened boycott by Hollywood, headed by the radical pro-abortion activist, actress Alyssa Milano.

Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio and Georgia also have approved bans on abortion once fetal cardiac activity can be detected, which can occur in about the sixth week of pregnancy.
