Trump says United States to 'do something' about French wine tariffs

Trump speaks to reporters at the White House in Washington

"It will be revealed in the not too distant future and will need a vote by Mexico's legislative body", Trump tweeted. Mexico's leaders showed they weren't willing to play along.

President López Obrador's government also said that it would take in several thousand people seeking asylum in the United States while their cases were...

President Donald Trump warned on Twitter that tariffs were still on the table if Mexico's government failed to agree to try to stop immigrants from reaching the US border.

Trump, who has called the surge in migrants an "invasion", had threatened to keep raising duties up to 25% unless Mexico did more to curb it.

Part of the agreement requires approval by the Mexican Congress...

Trump's tweets came amid questions about just how much of the deal - announced with great fanfare Friday - was actually new.

Six-thousand Mexican troops are headed south to the Guatemalan border to slow migrants bound for the US.

He said that United States negotiators had wanted Mexico to commit to "zero migrants" crossing its territory, but according to Mr Ebrard, that was "mission impossible". "There is no other thing".

If the number was not down by then, a regional solution would be sought.

"While in theory such an agreement would share the burden of refugee flows across several countries, in reality it could significantly worsen the current situation if the designated countries are unable or unwilling to properly accept and integrate the migrants", she said. And we've already got agreements on the way for other action that will help, again, solidify Mexico's commitment to stop illegal immigrants from coming across our Southern border.

Ebrard said the review would come in 45 days, while the State Department gave a 90-day deadline. In return, Trump said that he would not go ahead with a threat to impose escalating tariffs on all Mexican goods entering the US.

The Trump administration announced on Monday that Kenneth Cuccinelli will serve as the new acting director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, which oversees the nation's legal immigration system.

The pact calls for Mexico to dispatch 6,000 troops to its border with Guatemala to halt the flow of migrants from there, Honduras and El Salvador, while giving the United States new authority to force asylum-seekers to stay in Mexico while their legal cases in the US are pending.

"We have an agreement on something that they will announce very soon". US officials had been working to expand the program, which has led to the return of about 11,000 to Mexico without Mexico's public embrace.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will attend a State Department press briefing Monday afternoon days after the USA and Mexico reached an agreement to stem the flow of migration from Central America and avert President Trump's threats to impose tariffs of Mexican goods. "For American businesses, they introduce significant uncertainty: it is hard to make investment decisions in the face of continual threats of new tariffs, even if many of them may not ultimately be enacted".

The president spent the weekend and Monday morning defending the U.S. -Mexico agreement on Twitter against criticisms the deal does not include anything new.
