Drivers Scramble For Cash As Armoured Truck Drops £140,000

People bend down to take cash from the armoured truck on the side of a Georgia

Atlanta-area drivers were treated to a surprise last night when an armored truck spilled a load of cash onto the interstate.

Viral video captured the aftermath - dozens of opportunistic drivers pulled over and parked in the middle of the road, taking to the streets to collect as much as their fists would allow. The vehicle dropped between $100,000 and $175,000 onto the highway and authorities quickly responded to a report of "money flying all over the road", according to WXIA.

"The armoured vehicle crew said the side door came open while they were driving and money spilled out onto 285", police said in a statement.

People across the country are always asking for money to be thrown at their rough roads and crumbling infrastructure, but this is certainly not what they had in mind.

"For those who do not return the money, we do have the videos, we have tag numbers", Sergeant Robert Parsons said.

"I could have sworn the law was "finders keepers" " one woman wrote in response.

Many drivers said they were in disbelief.

Motorists driving along a busy highway in the United States couldn't believe their eyes when thousands of dollars of cash began raining down right in front of them.

"That leaves a lot left out there", Parsons said. "We are thankful there were no crashes or pedestrians struck as a result of this isolated cash storm".

Police appealed to anyone who took cash to return it, but added that it is a crime to take cash from an armoured truck and that officers were scouring social media videos to help them find anyone involved.

Lewis told WXIA that while he thought about what the money could do for his family, he ultimately chose to return it because it wasn't worth the legal trouble.

By the time police arrived at the scene, many had driven off with the cash they had collected.
