Mortal Kombat Film to Be Rated R and Include Fatalities!

Fatality

Everything is looking good for the upcoming Mortal Kombat film reboot. Russo took to Twitter to confirm that would no longer be the case, and proper Fatalities straight from the games will be coming - although he doesn't reveal which ones.

Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation maintained PG-13 ratings, keeping violence to a relative minimum compared to the video games.

Simon McQuoid is set to direct the new Mortal Kombat film, which will be produced by James Wan (Aquaman, The Conjuring Universe).

Russo claims that fatalities will be featured in a MK movie for the first time ever so I can assume that it will be as gory as the finishing moves found in the games. For anyone unfamiliar, Taslim is most famous for his work in the Indonesian martial arts-action film, "The Raid: Redemption", and his appearance in "Fast & Furious 6".

Fans of the franchise will be glad to know that screenwriter Greg Russo tweeted yesterday that the movie will be R-rated and also feature Fatalities. It aired for two seasons before Machinima expressed interest in a big-screen adaptation, which eventually got cancelled. The first Mortal Kombat game launched in 1992 and garnered acclaim and a loyal following, as well as controversy over its wildly graphic depictions of violence.

When the original film was released in 1995, it was received fairly well. The release date is set for March 5, 2021, and the film is now under production in South Australia.
