Novak Djokovic overcomes plucky Bautista Agut to reach Wimbledon final

Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer head to head wins, Wimbledon titles, Grand Slam titles

Rafael Nadal lost his semi-final match against Roger Federer in Wimbledon 2019.

Friday's semifinal didn't have quite as much drama of the last Wimbledon meeting between these two all-time greats, a rain-soaked epic in the 2008 final won by Nadal and considered by many to be the greatest match ever played.

Federer would kick up chalk with an ace to a corner, and Nadal would do the same in the next game.

Federer will now play Novak Djokovic in Sunday's final.

According to official statistics, the 45-stroke rally was the longest at Wimbledon since they started tracking point lengths in 2005.

"Well, [it's] been a tough one", Nadal said, clearly disappointed, after the match. (That's nearly certainly true.) They insist they want to win Wimbledon for the sake of winning Wimbledon, not as a matter of comparison.

Nadal took Federer down in straight sets in the semifinals of the French Open in June, CBS Sports reported.

Both Nadal and Federer kick-started the match with similar intensity in their game. Federer leads the set 2-1.

Djokovic overcame Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 earlier Friday to reach his sixth Wimbledon final.

Nadal led 3-2 in the tiebreaker before Federer won five straight points, clinching the set with a forehand victor. The match is set to begin at 7.55 pm (tentative) - Indian Standard Time (IST).

Djokovic, meanwhile, leads his series with Federer 25-22, including 9-6 in Grand Slam matches.

The eighth-seeded Mochizuki will play Carlos Gimeno Valero of Spain, who beat Harold Mayot of France 7-6 (5), 6-4.

Over a decade later, the sport´s two most successful players now have 38 Grand Slam titles between them and more than $100 million in prize money each.

Noel beat Diane Parry of France 6-2, 6-1, and Snigur defeated American Emma Navarro 6-3, 6-0. Upsetting Djokovic on Sunday to win Wimbledon, just two days after knocking out his archrival, would arguably seal the most impressive title of his career.

But the 31-year-old Bautista Agut held his nerve to eventually level the semi-final at 6-4 off a fortuitous net cord.

He also went on to add that he had few chances but Federer was a better player today at the Centre Court.

"It was a really close opening four to five games of the third set that could have gone either way - thankfully it went mine".

And so, while it is hard to put a label on this Federer-Djokovic rivalry, what we could see on Sunday is a defining moment in the race to top the all-time Grand Slam list. A win also would give her a record-tying 24 Grand Slam victories. He won the Australian Open in 2009, the US Open in 2010, 2013 and 2017, and is twice a victor at the All England Club, but he hasn't held the trophy since 2010.

Soon enough, the defending champion was bellowing and shaking his fist after putting away an overhead to go up a break in the third set.

"Then the climax at the end with the insane last game, some tough rallies there". He double-faulted on his first set point but converted the second with a volley victor that clipped the net cord. He held his first two service games without dropping a point. The match resumed minutes later.

Seeded 23rd, Bautista Agut was as surprised by his march to Wimbledon's semifinal as anyone, having scheduled his bachelor party in Ibiza for the tournament's final weekend.

Djokovic fought off two break points, via a 23-shot rally, in the fifth game.

Djokovic is looking for his fifth Wimbledon title, while Bautista Agut is appearing in his first Grand Slam semifinal.
