Twitter down: Social media platform returns after hour-long outage today

DownDetector

Some people may be able to access Twitter again and we're working to make sure Twitter is available to everyone as quickly as possible. The social media platform is now up but isn't entirely functional for everyone.

Twitter was out of commission just as Donald Trump - a frequent and aggressive tweeter - was hosting a so-called "social-media summit" at the White House on Thursday afternoon. The microblogging platform confirmed the service disruption on Thursday but has yet to provide more detailed information. According to Down Detector, a website that tracks outages, problems were reported from the US, Europe and elsewhere.

At the time of publishing this article; Twitter was down.

Twitter acknowledged the problem in a statement Thursday night, saying "We are now investigating issues people are having accessing Twitter". "We´ll keep you updated on what´s happening".

According to Newsweek, Twitter let out a statement acknowledging the outage. "Thanks for noticing - we're going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon", a message on the website's homepage reads.

The hashtag "TwitterDown" was trending as users recalled their experiences.

Last week when Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were down, Twitter was briefly hit too, affecting users worldwide.

Users have started reporting that the crash might have been resolved as of 8:43 p.m.
