Trump puts social media on notice after summit

President Trump is an avid social media user but he has also come down hard on Big Tech. He's hosting a social media summit on Thursday and some of his biggest supporters on social media will attend

As we previously reported, this unprecedented convention of social media influencers at the White House that took place yesterday was already causing controversy before it had even taken place.

The White House recently launched a new tool for people to report if they have been wrongly censored, banned or suspended on Facebook and Twitter.

Twitter and Facebook had no comment on the summit when contacted by FOX Business.

US President Donald Trump presided over the White House's first social media summit on Thursday.

The White House is hosting a so-called "social media summit today", which CNN points out will most likely be a forum for airing claims of social media bias against conservatives.

Trump has a following of about 62 million people on Twitter despite his claims that the company makes it hard for people to follow him. "The only thing we can't ask is, 'Are you a citizen of the United States?'"

Trump's attacks often have come in response to efforts by Facebook, Google and Twitter to remove hate speech, threats of violence and other troubling content from their platforms.

Trump in a March tweet accused Facebook, Google and Twitter of being "on the side of the Radical Left Democrats".

On Thursday, advocacy groups such as the Muslim Advocates accused Trump of holding the summit to pressure social media companies into not enforcing their online rules.

Among them are Bill Mitchell, a radio host who has promoted the extremist QAnon conspiracy theory on Twitter; Carpe Donktum, an anonymous troll who won a contest put on by the fringe media organization InfoWars for an anti-media meme; and Ali Alexander, an activist who attempted to smear Sen.

The odd guest list aside, the "summit" gets even weirder because, as far as anyone can tell, no one knows what is expected to be addressed at the meeting-even the attendees. He sensationally claimed, without evidence, that Twitter was preventing people from following him.

Trump a few times has threatened retaliatory action related to free speech. "The Fake News is not as important, or as powerful, as Social Media".

"We hardly do press releases anymore because if I put out on social media a statement, like I'm going to in a little while and something totally unrelated but a very important statement, now they're going insane", explained the United States president.

Another attendee of the White House's social media summit will be James O'Keefe, the founder and CEO of Project Veritas, a conservative news outlet whose hidden-camera videos are popular on YouTube.

According to Reuters, the president said he would "be calling a big meeting of the companies in a week or two - they have to be here".
