Brandon Routh To Play Superman In This Year’s DC Crossover Crisis

Brandon Routh Will Be Superman Again for 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' Crossover in The Arrowverse

Routh previously portrayed Clark Kent's alter ego on the big-screen in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns back in 2006.

Deadline is reporting that DC's Legends of Tomorrow star Brandon Routh will return as Superman in the CW's Arrowverse crossover "Crisis on Infinite Earths". This was then confirmed by Routh himself shortly after the news broke. He leads a double life so why not have his character played by more than one actor?

Crisis on Infinite Earths, based on the DC Comics universe-changing storyline of the same name, will play out across Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and the upcoming Batwoman series (starring Ruby Rose in the title role).

The other Superman to be featured, of course, will be Tyler Hoechlin reprising the role he's played in Supergirl and in last year's Elseworlds crossover.

It's this kind of stunt casting that makes me wish I was into all the shows within the Arrowverse.

Brandon Routh will once again be putting on the Superman costume as Crisis on Infinite Earths comes to the Arrowverse shows. It will run across five episodes, with the first three airing in December, and the final two wrapping things up in January. But given that the Crisis crossover will introduce an alternate Superman, it'll be interesting to see the extent to which its writers draw from the comics storyline for inspiration. During the event, a villain known as The Anti-Monitor (the evil counterpart of The Monitor) starts to destroy the various versions of Earth that make up the DC Comics universes. And now, this year's event is set to bring not one, but two Supermen into battle.

How will the Arrowverse adapt these stories?

The news will likely be made official at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, where fans will learn more about Crisis On Infinite Earths.
