Convicted Murderer Deemed Too Old to Kill Stabs Woman to Death

Stabbing Death Trial

It took jurors in ME less than an hour to find Albert Flick, 77, guilty in the 2018 murder of a homeless mother, Kimberly Dobbie, who was stabbed at least 11 times while her twin sons watched.

In 1979, the man stabbed his wife 14 times in front of their daughter, the report recalls.

After spending more than two decades in prison for killing his wife, Flick was let out in 2004 only to be sent back to prison six years later for assaulting a woman.

"At some point Mr. Flick is going to age out of his capacity to engage in this conduct", Maine Superior Court Justice Robert E. Crowley stated at the time, according to the Portland Press Herald.

Then after four year Flick was released in 2014 and then he moved to Lewiston.

Prosecutors said he met Dobbie, 48, and became infatuated with her, stalking her and dining at the homeless shelter where she was staying.

Both the attack, which was in front of a laundromat in broad daylight, and Flick's purchase two days earlier of two knives, were caught on surveillance video.

"His obsession had changed", Assistant District Attorney Bud Ellis told the jury in closing arguments.

Her twin 11-year-old sons were nearby and security cameras captured the moments they ran to their mother as she was being killed. He faces 25 years and is expected to spend the remainder of his life in prison. The victim informed the authorities that Flick had placed her in a headlock, hit her repeatedly with the butt-end of a knife, and then chased her with a screwdriver after she managed to wriggle free.

This was not the first time flick brutally attacked a woman. According to a study compiled by the U.S. Sentencing Commission found that, in 2017, just 13.4% of offenders who were 65 or older when they were released from prison were later arrested again in the eight-year period following their release.

With sentencing due in August, it's not known how long he will serve, but it's unlikely that he will be released from prison before he dies.

Among those who testified were friends of the woman who said that she tolerated his affection but did not want it.

It took jurors only 40 minutes to convict him of murder on Wednesday, even though they weren't told of his previous history of violence toward women.

A witness who had intercepted Flick, standing on his neck until police arrived, said that he had heard Dobbie telling him to leave her alone before he killed her. He told the Press Herald, which noted that he was stepping down while "at the top of his game", that he wanted to return to private practice.

"Since 2000, there's been multiple incidents, and there's no reason why he should be on the street", she said.
