Google Map Gets AR Walking Feature

Google Maps' AR walking directions come to iPhones and non-Pixel devices

Now Google is rolling an augmented reality feature that should offer better, real time directions by using your smartphone camera.

From the ashes of Google Trips rises a set of new features for Google Maps, it would appear. The new reservations tab can be spotted in the "Your Place" section.

If you have an upcoming trip in your calendar or details in your Gmail inbox those details will be automatically logged in the new Reservations tab in the Your Places menu in Google Maps for Android.

Google has a number of ways to organize travel reservation data that has been sent to your email address.

The two AR applications aren't identical, though; while Apple's patent describes a tool that would be used for in-car navigation, Live View is created to help you find your way around on foot.

The update will be rolled out to Android phones that support ARCore and iPhones that support ARKit.

The new features are stopping here though with food being the subject of the next new feature.

Imagine if you could get turn-by-turn navigation for walking just as you can when driving, but with the directions overlayed on the real world objects in front of you. It's actually what it's intended for, as Maps will prompt you to put your phone down in case you keep walking with it pointed at the street.

Users must first search for a location by typing it out or selecting it on the map. Once you have selected a Timeline of places, you can then go in and select only the locations you want to actively share with someone else. Enter your email to be subscribed to our newsletter.
