The NFL (indirectly) responds to Raiders receiver Antonio Brown’s helmet complaint

Will'Hard Knocks address the Antonio Brown issues

Brady previously said he understands the reason for the change, even as he struggles to adapt to it. The NFL said Brown would be in breach of his contract if he didn't play in a new helmet.

On Monday, Adam Schefter tweeted that an arbitrator ruled against Brown's grievance to wear his old helmet.

Last week, reports surfaced that Brown would refuse to play football ever again, if he was forced to wear the new league-mandated helmet.

The wide receiver is looking into whether he could find a version of his preferred-style helmet that is less than 10 years old to see if that would be acceptable, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. "I'm excited about this season appreciate all the concerns about my feet!" The NFL began enforcing bans on de-certified helmet models this season.

Raiders teammates and coaches only saw a small glimpse of Brown on the field in camp, and when he's out there, it certainly elevates everybody else with his preparation and how he practices. It is not clear that even if he could find one and get it certified by NOCSAE, that the National Football League would sign off on it because the technology is outdated. According to a truly insane twitter thread by reporter Mike Silver, the helmet issue has created a disconnect between Brown and the team. As of the final week of the 2018 season, 32 players (less than two percent of total players) remained in one of the prohibited helmets.

"He has a strong feeling about what he's worn on his head, and we're supporting him".

"We hope Antonio is back here soon because he's exciting to be around", Gruden said. "I hope we can start callin' em". The NFL's decision means that Brown must wear one of those helmets, or sit out like he threatened.
