Google finally rolling out dark mode for Gmail on Android

Gmail Dark

As a part of Android 10 leaving beta and arriving on Pixel devices as a stable build with official dark theme, Google told us that Gmail would get its darker makeover later on this month.

Google recently updated its mobile apps with the radical Material Theming design style. The dark theme can also be seen in the mail composition box with a dark grey background with white text.

Express.co.uk has the low down on how to turn on this exciting feature. The caveat is that this is for the Android version of the app only, and you'll need to be running Android 10.

In addition to this option, Google Gmail includes a manual light and dark toggle. Now that Pixel devices are starting to get the dark mode, other devices running Android 10 and below should be getting it soon enough.

One of the major changes Android 10 has brought is the system-wide support of dark mode.

One notable exception would be emails including HTML, which will probably still render with other colours, probably white.

The latest version of the Gmail app for Android is said to be available with version 2019.08.18.267044774, which is now available on Play Store.

Google Play is likely taking longer to convert due to the complexity of its icon-heavy interface.

To recall, Google first started testing the dark mode on Android earlier this year, when it started rolling it out for a handful of users. While it boasts of several software features that will improve the performance and health of the smartphones, one of the most talked-about features was the new "Dark" mode.

There is now nearly a week from the release of Apple's iOS 13 which will likewise finally bring a system-wide dark mode to iOS devices.
