Joe Johnson to Sign With Pistons, Make NBA Return After BIG3 Stint

Johnson, 38, earned another shot in the National Basketball Association with his performance in the 3-on-3 league.

The Pistons and Joe Johnson have reached an agreement on a deal that will bring the 7-time All-Star to Detroit, Chris Haynes of Yahoo!

Johnson, 38, spent last season in the Big 3 league, winning the MVP and leading his team to a championship.

Michael Beasley is likely to be released in order to make room for Johnson on the roster, according to The Athletic's Jeff Goodman, who first reported negotiations were close.

Johnson, 38, is the first BIG3 player to successfully use the league to join the National Basketball Association, even though he has 17 years of National Basketball Association experience under his belt.

Johnson made the NBA All-Rookie second-team in 2002 and All-NBA third-team in 2010, after making the SEC All-Freshman team in 2000 and second-team All-SEC in 2001. Johnson reportedly worked out for the Pistons on Tuesday. He averaged only 6.8 points and 3.1 rebounds per game while shooting a rough 40.6 percent from the field during his last National Basketball Association campaign, split between the Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets. He owns career averages of 16 points, four rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 0.8 steals, and has shot 37.1% from beyond the arc.
