Yet another 'Game of Thrones' prequel is coming

Fans disappointed by the end of HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones" may soon have reason to rejoice, as the cable network is said to be close to ordering a pilot for a prequel based on the rise and fall of one of series' most compelling factions.

But that doesn't mean that people don't have a burning (pun intended) desire for more Game of Thrones - a desire HBO is all too keen to service. But it sure seems logical.

Another Game of Thrones prequel focusing on the Targaryen heritage might be in the works. It draws inspiration from Martin's recent book "Fire & Blood", which tells the history of House Targaryen in the series' universe.

Although the announcement is still essentially just a rumour - HBO have declined to comment - early rumblings suggest that Martin himself will have a bigger hand in production.

"Two other shows remain in the script stage, but are edging closer. I can not say", he wrote on his blog.

Fire & Blood, released in 2018, is a book by Martin that specifically explores the Targaryen lineage, including Aegon the Conqueror's creation of the Iron Throne, as well as the Dance of Dragons, a massive civil war, which is speculated to be a part of the new prequel. It's likely fans will learn more about the origin of the White Walkers and the Night King as well.

In addition to being the co-creator and showrunner on Colony, Condal is known for co-writing the screenplay of the Dwayne Johnson-starrer movies Rampage, and Hercules.

The potential series is one of three spin-offs in the works, including the one written by Jane Goldman and starring Naomi Watts, which filmed a pilot this summer.

The as-yet untitled project, now in post-production, will also feature Josh Whitehouse, Miranda Richardson, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, and Jamie Campbell Bower.
